De Bijloke
The Bijloke centre Ghent is a historic site of exceptional importance. In 1228, the Bijloke Hospital was established. The Mary Hospital of Cisterciënzer-sisters moved from near St. Michael's Church to the Bijloke. The building that we know today mainly as the Bijloke concert hall was originally a hospital ward with 40 beds, many with more than one person per bed. The centerpiece of this colossal, medieval infirmary is undoubtedly the overwhelming canopy of oak, a magnificent example of medieval craftsmanship. In the past ten years it was restored with the utmost respect and transformed into a modern auditorium and concert hall with a capacity of nearly 1,000 seats. Furthermore, the medieval and 19th-century wings are linked together with a modern construction, which include a number of lounges and dressing rooms houses next to a bistro.
In this ancient hospital and current concert hall, the lectures of the Seventh
International Symposium on Hormone and Veterinary Drug Residue Analysis will
take place.
